With many calling for federal regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), AAF’s Director of Technology and Innovation Policy Will Rinehart explains in a new Primer how policymakers should think about AI and the government’s approach to it. He also lays out a policy agenda for Congress and the executive branch.

Key points of the primer include:

• Premature regulation is likely to hurt innovation and progress in AI;
• Large firms have taken the lead on AI implementation and shouldn’t be punished for doing so; and
• The United States should not pursue a singular strategy for regulating AI, but rather a multiplicity of strategies that rely on the ingenuity of industries and individuals working in concert with government agencies.
