Robert K Steel
Robert K. Steel is the former President and CEO of Wachovia. He previously served as Under Secretary for Domestic Finance at the U.S. Treasury; taught at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard; and spent nearly thirty years with Goldman Sachs, retiring in 2004 as Vice Chairman. Currently, Steel serves on the Board of Wells Fargo, with whom Wachovia merged. He chairs the Board of the Aspen Institute; and through the Pew Task Force on Financial Reform, he advises members of the U.S. Senate and House on economic matters. He also serves on the FDIC Advisory Committee on Economic Inclusion, improving low-income consumers’ access to the financial mainstream. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Hospital for Special Surgery and serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of The After-School Corporation. Steel has served as Chair of the Board of Duke University, where he received a B.A. He currently serves on the Duke Global Health Institute Board of Advisors. He earned his M.B.A. at the University of Chicago. Steel lives in Connecticut with his wife; they have three daughters.
